This album was largely recorded the two days after we climbed Gunung Agung, the 3,142m Volcano in Bali, Indonesia - an amazing experience that fuelled our creativity and destroyed our legs. The album cover is inspired by a photo taken as we approached the crater rim of Mt Agung.
Julian Banks Group is a collaboration between old a new friends with the latter being stellar Indonesian percussionist Cepi Kusmiadi on the Kendang Sunda - a traditional set of two-headed Indonesian drums
Kusmiadi’s bubbling magic on this beautiful traditional Indonesian instrument creates the perfect bed for the modern grooves and melodic sensibilities of these tunes. We first started playing together at the Ubud Village Jazz Festival in 2015, and have made it a yearly endeavour to get together in Bali and make music... hopefully more recordings will follow!
Hope you enjoy the music :)

A magnificent second release from Jordan Rakei. Bridges the gap between the wandering melodies and lyrics of Cloak with the concise and radiant production and rhythms of Origin quite nicely. remy owen
